Enjoyment of the concert stage!
7th December 2010

I have had the pleasure over the last few weeks in singing on the concert platform in a few different guises.  A lunchtime recital of song, an opera gala and a Handel Oratorio, it has reminded me of the fun of concerts as I have been locked away with opera for a while.  I had the pleasure of singing Duparc, Rachmaninov and Wolf with our artistic director David Gowland.  Although I had an endless cold during my preparation for this concert, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was followed shortly after by an opera gala with some of my colleagues from the JPYAP.  We were invited by a patron of the ROH to sing at a local tennis club in Rye, Sussex and what a treat it was.  We had the pleasure of staying in their wonderful home in the England’s smallest town, Winchelsea and were treated like royalty for 24 hours that we were there.  It made for a wonderful evening and I hope the connection with JPYAP continues in the future.

Adriana Lecouvreur
22nd November 2010

Learning on the job is one of the gifts of being a singer, everyday there is something new to challenge you and excite your imagination.  The best bit of working at the ROH is, I get to attend all the dress rehearsals and watch world-class singers at work.  On Monday 15th November, I saw the dress rehearsal of David McVicar’s new production of Adriana Lecouvreur starring Angela Gheorghiu, Jonas Kaufmann, Alessandro Corbelli and Michaela Schuster, conducted by Sir Mark Elder.   It was a fantastic show, the story is entertaining and the music extremely easy on the ear.  I had never heard Gheorghiu live, so that was a real treat for me and I can really see why she is a star as every note she sings is beautifully placed without exception.  For me the real joy of the production was Jonas Kaufmann, he is amazing.  He is totally committed to his character and through this his singing is always engaging, he is my new favourite star.  There are a few shows left which you can see the details of here
